Does God Exist?

Does God Exist?

This is the question underneath every other question. And it deserves a straight answer — not a lecture, not a debate. Just an honest look at what the Bible says and what it means for your life.

What Happens When We Deny God Exists?

Here’s something most people don’t expect from the Bible: if someone consistently shuts God out, God will eventually let them.

That’s not abandonment. That’s respect for free will taken to its logical end.

John 12:40

The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts — so that their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and have me heal them.

When someone just wants God to leave them alone, sometimes His response is to make it easier for them to do exactly that. Their heart becomes less sensitive to Him over time. The Good News starts to sound like noise. What once felt like a nudge stops feeling like anything at all.

That’s not a scare tactic. It’s just what happens when a door gets closed long enough.

Why God Didn’t Make This Complicated

A lot of people assume that believing in God is for people who aren’t smart enough to know better. That faith is a crutch for the simple-minded.

But here’s what’s actually true: God deliberately designed salvation to be simple. Not because He underestimated people — but because He wanted everyone to have access to it. If salvation required a high IQ or years of theological study, most of humanity throughout history would never have had a chance. Children couldn’t be saved. People who never learned to read couldn’t be saved. Entire cultures and generations would be locked out.

That wasn’t acceptable to God. So He made the way in something anyone could do.

Believe.

1 Corinthians 1:20-21, 27

So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.

The person who never finished school and the person with a PhD start at the exact same place. That’s not a flaw in the design. That’s the point.

1 Corinthians 2:14

But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

The Thing People Are Actually Worshiping Instead

When people reject God, they don’t stop worshiping. They just redirect it.

Money. Career. Possessions. Education. Status. Relationships. Self-improvement. We’ve all seen the self-help industry — thousands of books, seminars, podcasts, and programs all promising to fill the thing that feels empty. People know something is missing. They just keep looking in the wrong places.

Here’s what’s actually missing: a relationship with God. That’s what we were designed for. No seminar gets you there. No amount of self-optimization fills it.

There’s a useful distinction worth making here. Religion is man’s attempt to reach God. Jesus is God’s attempt to reach man. That’s a completely different direction.

Isaiah 5:21

What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever.

Matthew 11:25

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.”

Why There’s No Physical Proof

People often say they’d believe in God if there were hard evidence — something they could see or test.

But think about what that would actually mean. If God’s existence were scientifically provable, faith would have no value. You don’t need faith to believe in gravity. You don’t need trust to accept something you can directly verify. God intentionally left physical evidence out of reach because faith — real, chosen, costly faith — is exactly what He’s after. A relationship built on proof isn’t a relationship. It’s just acknowledgment.

The Real Reason People Reject God

People rarely reject Christianity because they’ve found proof it isn’t true. Most of the time, the real issue is what following Jesus would actually require of them.

The lifestyle changes. The loyalty. The obedience. That’s what they can’t accept. So rather than deal with the message, they reject the messenger.

Romans 8:5–8

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

But Christians Are Hypocrites

This one comes up constantly. Someone points to a Christian who behaved badly and uses it as evidence that God doesn’t exist.

But think about that logic for a second. Proving that a person failed doesn’t disprove the God they claim to follow. None of us make good decisions all the time — believers or not. Human imperfection has never been in question. Christianity doesn’t claim its followers are perfect. It claims they’re forgiven.

Pointing at a hypocrite doesn’t close the question of whether God exists. It just changes the subject.
